On April 15, 1946 Allan and Grace Dickson rented property at 1 Union Avenue (HWY. 71) in Brielle, New Jersey. They began what has become a famous local landmark, and a substantial plumbing and heating supply business.
Here's how it happened. Allan and Grace had been dating. Allan had been in the plumbing wholesale business for twelve years. World War II became the focus of the next four years. Prior to leaving for duty in WWII, Allan and Grace married. Allan served in the U.S. Navy, Construction Battalion, in the South Pacific. The "Cee-Bee's" famous motto for construction under fire was "Can do". Grace had attended College, and in wartime worked in business & industry. Peacetime enabled Allan and Grace to begin their dream, and part of it was to start their own business, a Plumbing and Heating supply.
Brielle, New Jersey, is on the Atlantic Coast & is about midway between New York and Philadelphia. It is known to many as the sport fishing capital of the Northeast. In the 40's this seaside resort town and surrounding area was rural. The post-war economy coupled with the great demand for housing after the war enabled the area and Dickson Supply Company to grow quickly.
The first boiler was purchased early that year and assembled at night for display purposes. The response to the display boiler was so positive that it led to an order for a truckload shortly thereafter. Many loyal customers, vendors, and employees drove company growth through its early days, and continue to do so today.
The business that Allan and Grace started - with a rented fruit and vegetable stand and a $250 used Federal pick-up truck - has grown to become a modern distributor with a full staff of experts, a large warehouse and offices, and a fleet of delivery trucks.
The Dickson family and staff continue the success story today, to work long and hard as they have for many years to serve their clients. Representing hundreds of manufacturers, and stocking tens of thousands of parts, Dickson's has an outstanding reputation with customers, known for its friendly staff of experts who are known as "The Problem Solvers". Dickson Supply Company is an Old Fashioned Family Business when it comes to service, but we pride ourselves on continuing to learn and utilize new ideas, products, and technology. Today the company continues to grow, well into its second generation.
A team of managers led by the founder's son, Allan J. Dickson Jr. President, conducts business operations. Dickson Supply Company's highly trained staff average over 10 years experience.
