Speakman Shower Head Installation Note
Installation note: This shower head will NOT work with "Ball-end" type shower arms. The proper type of shower arm must be 1/2" Iron Pipe Size, which is the most popular type. To avoid costly and disappointing errors please check which type of shower arm you have before you place your order with us!
Here is how you can tell what type of shower arm you have.
- If you can see a portion of threads on the shower arm where the arm meets the head, then you have a Standard threaded type of shower arm and it will work with this shower head.
- If you do not see any threads there look for a joint (or seam) in the shower head itself which would encircle the head laterally. At this point is where two pieces of the shower head are mated together by threads. You will not be able to see these threads until you begin to unscrew the two pieces.
- If you choose to unscrew the head, you will need to have the proper size wrench. Use a wrench that does not have any teeth, so it will not scratch you existing shower head. Use the wrench on the portion of the head which is closest to the wall and turn the other portion of the shower head off by hand.
- When you complete unscrewing the two halves of this type of shower head you will then see a ball end on the downstream side of shower arm, one half of the shower head will be captured on the ball end of the arm.
If you do have this second type of shower arm you would need to replace it to be able to use the shower head that we offer here. We do have everything you need to accomplish the replacement of your shower arm, which would simply be a new threaded shower arm and escutcheon - the trim ring that goes against the wall. We have a number of types of shower arms for you to choose from to match your shower head and your bath. Additionally we have any tools and advice that you may need to help you with your project.
