K42 Beacon Morris - Hydronic Kickspace Heater ?
Go with Beacon/Morris - the first name in kickspace heaters.
Why Kickspace Heaters?
Kickspace heaters are the space-saving alternative to hot water baseboard. Designed to fit inconspicuously under a cabinet, in the floor, on or in the wall, kickspace heaters are ideal for hard to heat areas such as foyers, kitchens, and bathrooms.
Hot Water from the home's boiler is circulated through the kickspace unit and the fan gently blows heated air into the room. The homeowner simply selects the fan speed, then the unit turns on and off automatically according to heating demand. Twin Flo kick space heaters cast warm air across the surface of your floor and the result is - a warmed floor and warm toes!
Beacon/Morris is well known for producing high quality heating equipment to help you solve the tough and unique heating problems in your home or commercial building.
Why Beacon/Morris?
Beacon/Morris invented the concept of kickspace heaters and patented the original design. Beacon/Morris is America's most experienced producer of kickspace heaters and builds more kickspace heaters than any other manufacturer.Beacon Morris makes a complete range of models for every heating need, from the smallest foyer to the largest kitchen. The new Twin-Flo III model offer important enhancements in heating capacity, quiet operation, appearance, and reliability. All models are designed for fast, easy installation with complete factory wiring and standardized connections. Optional kits allow for recessed mounting, and in-floor installation.

In application - two Beacon Morris Twin Flow units are used here to heat a large space from the kitchen island.
Features:
- Comfort -- Twin-Flo III works with a home's hot water heating system to keep hard to heat areas warm and comfortable.
Certified Performance -- Tested and certified in the United States and Canada.

*Based on 65 degree F. entering air temperature with fan at high speed including the heating effect factor.
**Blower operates at water temperature above 140 degrees F. with standard self-contained aquastat. Optional low temperature aquastat available for low temperature applications.
Supply & return connections are 1/2" nominal.

Twin-Flo FAQS
Q:What is piping connection size for supply and return?
A: Both the supply and return connection are 1/2" nominal tubing.
Q:Can more than one unit be installed?
A: You will have to calculate the pressure drop for the distance of tubing to and from the unit, including the pressure drop for all of the fittings used in the loop
Q:What is water temperature drop of a unit?
A: Calculate by dividing the BTU output by 500 (the weight of l GPM for an hour) and divide that result by the system GPM.
Q:How far from boiler should unit be installed?
A: You will have to calculate the pressure drop for the distance of tubing to and from the unit, including the pressure drop for all of the fittings used in the loop.
Q:What happens to the output or performance of the unit if I pipe the supply and return backwards?
A: There will be no noticeable change in the BTU output of the unit due to its size.
Q:What size Twin Flo unit do I need?
A: We would be happy to provide you with a heat-loss calculation for your entire house or just the one room. Please contact us.
Q:Which Twin Flo unit is the one I should use?
A: Based on the amount of heat in BTU that is needed, you can select from the three sizes that are available. You can also choose where to install the unit, whether under a kitchen cabinet, in a bathroom wall with the flush mounting wall kit or against the wall in a mud room with a to the floor "F" kit. You can even mount it into the floor with the floor mounting "FK" kit.
Q:Can a Twin-Flo unit be used with a steam system?
A: It is not recommended. This due to the fact that the heating coils are either a continuous serpentine or multi-loop copper tube type. The basic problem is that the condensate can become trapped in a low spot and the results are noisy water hammer when the steam enters the coil and meets with the condensate.
Q:What are the operating temperatures of the standard and optional low temperature aquastats on the units?
A: The standard operating temperature of the unit aquastat is contact closed at 140 degrees F, contact open at 120 degrees F. The standard operating temperature of the optional low temperature aquastat is contact closed at 120 degrees F, contact open at 105 degrees F.
Q:What should be checked before calling for service?
A: Check that blower wheel is turning freely. Check wiring for loose connections. Make sure the clip holding the aquastat is snug on the copper U-bend of the coil. Check that boiler and circulator are operating. If a wall thermostat is being used, check that it is set properly.
Q:Can a Twin-Flo be installed in a ceiling application?
A: The K-42 unit produces a low (50) CFM and the heated air will not be projected downward far enough to be effective. The larger K-84 and K-120 produce more CFM`s and may be effective for your application.
Q:Why would a Twin-Flo turn on and off within a few seconds?
A: If the unit is wired with a wall thermostat, the air temp near the t`stat is at the borderline temperature. If the unit is hard wired with no t-stat, the aquastat is sensing the water temperature is at or near the minimum operating temperature.
Q:Can the Twin-Flo units be used for cooling?
A: No. There are no provisions to collect and get rid of the condensate water that would build up on the coil fins.
Q:Are old style unit replacement parts available?
A: There are no longer parts available for Twin-Flo units built prior to July 1986.
Q:Can Twin-Flo units be used in a potable water system?
A: Yes. Twin-Flo units are made with a no-lead 95/5 silver solder. This meets most local code requirements. Check local code to verify.
Q:Can Twin-Flo units be used in a gravity fed system?
A: Most gravity systems are old and there is no easy way of determining flow rate. It is difficult to predict if the units will operate at their specified outputs.
Q:Is a circulator pump required?
A: For best operating results, it is recommended that Twin-Flo units be used in a hot water system with a circulator pump.
Q:What is the operating RPM of the kickspace heater?
A: At high speed, the motors operate at approximately 3200 RPM. At low speed, the motors operate at approximately 2600 RPM
