Reservoir Style Laundry Tray / Sink Drain Pump

LTP-1 Reservoir Style Laundry Tray/Sink Drain Pump 1/4 HP #801284.
Gray water is wastewater composed of wash water from kitchen, bathroom, and laundry sinks, tubs, and washers. Gray water is different from sewage, which is organic waste or wastewater from humans, animals or plants or household operations.

OPERATION
The LTS & LTP pumps operate automatically. Water from the tub/sink drains into the tank where it raises the float to a pre-set power on point. The water is pumped out the discharge and through the check valve to the drain line. The float drops with the water level to a pre-set power off point. A check valve is required to keep water from draining back to the tank.

A check valve is required on the discharge line of this pump - tank. If you need an 1-1/2" check valve here are two popular check valves that are often selected as a companion check valve for use with the Hartell LTP-1 Reservoir Style Laundry Tray/Sink Drain Pump

Please note - The discharge size of the LTP-1 pump is 1" FIP - so an adaptation is required to use the following check valves:

  • CV150C: 1-1/2" compression style check valve PVC
  • CV2N1: 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" check valve rubber slip with band clamps style connection

A discharge line shutoff valve is also a reccomendation. The installation of a shutoff valve is recommended in the discharge line. This will allow the discharge flow rate to be modified, if required to match inlet flow and prevent short cycling of the pump in low lift installations. In addition, it will allow service to the check valve or the pump without draining the discharge line.

Can I use an AAV (Automatic Air Vent) on a Reservior Style Laundry Drain Pump?

FYI - About DWV systems - Drain Waste and Vent. Traps, Venting & Air Admittance Valves (AAVs)

Plumbing Drain, Waste and Vent systems, known as DWV, consist of the DRAIN pipes that provide a network for the removal of WASTE and the VENT pipes that prevent traps from siphoning and maintain an equalized pressure. The DWV system uses gravity and air displacement throughout the piping network to function and breathe. In a simplified example, water in an inverted bottle without an air hole will glug and gasp when emptied. Adding an opening to the bottom of the bottle will turn the process into an efficient, steady flow because the bottle "breathes."

Every drain needs a trap. Every trap needs a vent. To prevent sewer gases from being released into the structure, plumbing code requires a trap to be installed at every fixture. A trap is a U-shaped bend of pipe filled with water that acts as a barrier between the structure and the sewer system. Trap seals can only be compromised under two conditions - high sewer pressures and water siphons, in both cases vents prevent this from happening.

Under higher sewer pressures without a vent, trap seals will allow sewer gases to escape and enter the structure. This happens when the sewer pressure is greater than the pressure from the column of water in the trap. A vent will keep the sewer and atmospheric pressures equalized to maintain the trap seal. Water moving through pipes can create a negative pressure or a siphon. The siphon will pull the water from a trap, leaving a clear path for sewer gases to enter the structure. A vent will prohibit siphoning, maintaining the trap seal.

    Air Admittance Valve?
Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) open and close in conjunction with normal DWV system operation, effectively eliminating the need for secondary vent pipes. An AAV provides an alternative to secondary venting when utilized within the scope of model plumbing codes, referenced standards. AAVs provide the ideal venting solution for island sinks, remote bathroom groups and remodeling jobs by eliminating the need to tie into a stack vent. AAVs are often more economical than running vent pipe in new construction because they reduce the added need for supplies and labor.

No - It is not recommended by the manufacturer.

We put this information about AAV's here because it is a Frequently Asked Question and people have been known to use AAV's on Drain Pumps.

We do not suggest or recommend that an AAV be used on this application.  Typically  Compact Utility Drain Pumps are vented through the roof,  we refer you to your local codes for proper venting of any Compact Utility Drain Pump.
