Liberty Pumps 237 Automatic Sump Pump is Convertible to a Utility Pump

This pump comes to you set-up as a Sump Pump, but the Liberty 237 also has the unique capability of being able to be converted and used as a Utility Pump. To accomplish conversion to a Utility Pump, two easy steps need to be performed requiring about a minute of your time.

1) First remove the float rod: To convert the pump from an automatic to a manual pump, raise the float as high as it will go and tug at the float rod from just below the float. When the float rod has been removed the pump will run continuously when plugged in. (To reinstall the float rod, slide the magnet side of the rod into the upper chamber of the pump and snap in the bottom of the float rod.)

2) Second, remove the base: Turn the pump upside down and you will see three screws. Remove these screws - the lower base will slide off. Without the lower base the "237" will pump down to 1/8th inch of water.
Configured in this way it makes a great pump to do clean-up and dewatering of flooded floors or basements. When your dealing with a flood , useing the Liberty "237" will help you to get rid of enough water so that a Wet-Vac, fans and de-humidifiers can be used to take over the next and final steps of restoring your property to be dry and clean again.

Libery Pumps - Model 237 with VMF

What is VMF?

VMF (Vertical Magnet Float) Switch is very reliable design sump pump switch by Liberty Pumps. Ansd as the name implys and  by design the VMF employes a magnet along with a small but bouyant float to accomplish it's task. The VMF switch only moves up and down, it requires much less room to turn the pump on and off than other types of pumps with other types of switches like those that are built into float balls teathered to the power cords, or pressure diaphrams.

When installed on the Liberty  Subermisible Sump Pump the VMF Switch provides a much smaller footprint and allows for the use of a smaller (10")  diameter Sump Pit instead of a 14" diameter which is normal minimum clearance for a "sump pit' or basin, this can be very benificial as many sump pump pits are areay designed undersized*, so this sump pum may be placed in a smaller catch basin to pump out water than most other sump pumps of similar power.

*Sump Pit – All Models

  1. A sump pit not less than 14” in diameter is recommended. On submersible pumps equipped with the vertical float (models 237 and 247) a minimum 10” diameter pit is acceptable. For larger horse power pumps a larger diameter pit is preferred as it allows for longer pump cycling and reduced switch cycling. The depth of the pit should be at least 12”. If using Liberty’s platform product called “The Brick” then the depth of the pit should be at least 15”.
  2. If the pit is not already enclosed on the bottom, provide a hard level bottom of bricks or concrete. DO NOT place the pump directly on earth, gravel or debris since this can cause excessive wear of the impeller and possible jamming. “The Brick” (sold by Us - it is Made by Liberty Pumps and is part # 4445000), "The Brick", is a pre-molded stable platform designed to fit your submersible pump. It raises the pump 2.5” off the bottom of the pit, reducing the potential for jamming from rocks and debris.        Remove all debris from the bottom of the sump pit before installation of the pump. A sump pit cover is suggested for safety and to prevent foreign objects from entering the pit.
