FAQ's
Q: What is the purpose of the tapings in the side of the bodies of these spring check valves?
A: The 1/8" inch tapping on the inlet or down-stream side of the check valves, found on both the Enviro Model check Valves 80AE & 80BE, is used for winterization.
Winterization of a pump means to prepare it for freezing weather. When we winterize, we avoid damage caused by freezing temperatures and the formation of ice that can damage the water system. By taking the proper steps to protect the water system early, before pipes, pumps, irrigation and water systems freeze, we prevent flood damage and avoid costly repairs.
The 1/8" tapping utilizes a simple brass pipe plug. That small pipe plug may be easily and quickly removed to break the suspended column of water that is held in the well pipe by suction vacuum created by the system and is held in the well pipe. By removing the plug one may release the vacuum, as atmospheric pressure is allowed into the pipe and the suspended column of water that was held by suction is released and the water column drops to the water table in the ground and that section of the pipe system is now made free and clear of water.
The 1/4 tapping found on the Model 80BE only is designed for the purpose of installation of a vacuum gauge.
