Features of the The Chatham E8 Shower Cut-Off Valve:
The Shower Cut Off Valve gives a tell-tale drip. This "trickle", is intentionally designed into the Shower Cut Off Valve to remind the users to shut off the water at the shower valve.
Some people tell us that they want a cut-off valve that fully shuts off their water. We explain that the E8 Shower Cut Off Valve is designed for the sole purpose of adjusting water volume to a fixed or hand-held shower. This is not a valve designed to withstand the constant and variable pressures of a domestic water system. Additionally there is a very good reason not to shut your water off only on the shower arm with any valve and that reason is Thermal Siphoning.
- Thermal Siphoning
First let us tell you about Thermal Siphoning. Thermal Siphoning in a piping system is the movement of heated water due to convective currents that are set-up within an open loop piping system. The fact that hot water will rise and cold (denser) water will fall (just like air) results in a natural movement of water or circulation, this is Thermal Siphoning. If a shower mixing valve were left in the open position and water was shut off only on the discharge line (the shower arm), an open loop is created and siphoning will in most cases occur. If that happens the water heater will be loosing hot water across (through) the open shower valve to the cold water side of the piping system. When Thermal Siphoning happens you are not likely to notice it taking place, but it will be noticeable on your energy bill! Shutting the shower valve off properly will prevent thermal siphoning of hot water to the cold water, thus saving hot water, energy and the money that that energy would cost.
If such a valve was used in the position that an #E8 Shower Cut Off Valve is normally used and used for the purpose of shutting off the flow of tempered hot and cold water, this would be a gross misapplication if it allowed the shower valve to be open to create an open loop - Thermal Siphoning would occur.
The E8 Shower Cut Off Valve is an inexpensive valve designed for the sole purpose of adjusting water volume to a fixed shower or hand-held shower. The E8 Shower Cut Off Valve is not a valve that is designed to withstand the constant and variable pressures of a domestic water system. Use of pipe thread sealant such as Teflon tape is recommended.
More about the Shower Water Saver - Cut-off Valve

Shower Cut-Off Valve does not fix or correct any irregularities in flow or pressure of hot or cold water that may be present in your system.
You should make your own assessment of the product and its suitability for your water system.
If your system has unreliable flow or pressure you should consult a licensed plumber as to suitable solution to correct such irregularities.
Check that plumbing work is in accordance to standards.
It will always be Hip to be Green and now it's easier!
Simplicity of design invites anyone taking a shower to turn the water ON and OFF much easily than ever before.
Everyone would like to save water but it's too much trouble to turn off the water while soaping because you have to re-create the mixture. That's why we usually leave the water running while we soap. But when it's THIS easy to PAUSE the water flow
Everyone in your family may be encouraged to cut-off the water off while soaping, shampooing, and shaving legs, instinctively switching off the water that's normally wasted while soaping. Because soaping takes longer than rinsing the Shower Cut Off Valve may easily halve the amount of water used to shower!
Do the math
A normal 15-minute shower can consume about 38 gallons of water with a 2.5 gallon per minute water saving shower haed, the type that is mandated for water saving by law in the US.. The Shower Cut Off Valve can save about 17 gallons per shower if water is off half the time spent while we may shave, lather with soap or shampoo. In a four person house that could represent a savings of about 22,000 gallons per year, the volume of a large size aboue groung swimming pool! How's that for doing your part and being Green?
